Where to stay in Tangier: a neighbourhood guide for first-time visitors

Stay in the Kasbah or medina for atmosphere and rooftops, Malabata for the beach with modern comfort, Marina Bay for convenience and the Tarifa ferry, Cap Spartel for a villa with a pool, and the city centre for cafés, markets and value.

Kasbah & medina — for atmosphere

Lime-washed lanes, cobalt doors and terraces looking across the Strait to Spain. You walk everywhere and you sleep inside the walls. The trade-off is pedestrian access: expect to carry luggage a few hundred metres, and skip it if stairs are a problem.

Malabata & Marina Bay — for ease

Malabata gives you recent buildings, a long promenade, an urban beach and a ten-minute taxi into the old city — the easiest choice for families. Marina Bay puts you ten minutes on foot from the Tarifa ferry terminal and the high-speed station, ideal for short trips and Spanish weekenders.

Cap Spartel & the city centre

Cap Spartel and Achakar mean villas in pine woods above Atlantic beaches, the lighthouse where two seas meet, and the Hercules Caves — twenty minutes out, so plan a car or our transfer. The city centre and Iberia are the most affordable and most everyday Tangier, walkable to both the medina and the port.

Practical notes

The Tarifa crossing takes about an hour and Tangier sits 14 km across the Strait. Ibn Battouta airport is 15 to 22 km away depending on the neighbourhood. July and August are hot and busy; May, June, September and October are the best months. Our team answers in French, English, Spanish and Arabic, seven days a week.
